Innovation Accelerators

Aim: To invest $7.1 million to streamline resources and platforms to catalyse multidisciplinary collaboration across a broad range of sectors involved in childhood cancer, including research, clinical, industry, education, and charities.

The current Australian childhood cancer research infrastructure landscape does not support robust multi-disciplinary collaboration. Services and technology platforms are fragmented, which limits data flow and reduces the efficiency of research processes and data sharing across institutions and disciplines.

The Innovation Accelerators Impact Program supports the integration of resources and platforms to streamline research infrastructure and facilitate world-leading discovery, translational, and clinical research.

Innovation Accelerators focus areas

Children’s Cancer CoLab supports projects aimed at accelerating innovation, including leveraging existing infrastructure and systems at our CoLaborators to maximise research outcomes and enhance economies of scale.

Our platforms and resources will:

  • Address critical gaps or demonstrate novelty in childhood cancer research and care
  • Align with the objectives and priorities of our other Impact Programs
  • Faciliate collaboration among our CoLaborators and other researchers, clinicians, industry and institutionsto accelerate outcomes
  • Demonstrates effective governances, systems and policies to ensures access and integrity, cost-effectiveness and sustainability

We will initially prioritise:

  • Bioresource platforms that embed best-practice sample and data collection and sharing
  • Resources that enable young cancer patients to participate in large multi-institutional research initiatives and clinical trials
  • Long-term outcomes registry to

Potential impact

Children’s Cancer CoLab is guided by scientific rigour across all our Impact Programs, and our comprehensive evaluation framework sets clear objectives to measure the impact of our funding. The potential impact resulting from our Innovation Accelerators Impact Program is:

Significant advancements in infrastructures that accelerate innovative treatments and improve outcomes for childhood cancer.
